LLU ISPs Whitstable area

feliscatusx2:
Been looking at this exchange for when we move.  BT are a bit negative (very long line to the exchange, they say) so I wonder about the LLU lot.  Whitstable seems to have the full set, the present owner uses Orange.
I am not to keen on citrous fruit and am attracted to BE.

Does anybody have any experience of BE or any alternatives?

BT say that I can expect between 1.5 & 2.5 speeds which is very slightly less than now.

feliscatusx2:
Just run a speed test and I am getting 1.59, the slowest I have seen for ages, it's usually either 2.3 or 2.8.

Oh well.

Hi FC,

If you look here you will see that O2 / Be have not enabled Whitstable for their LLU products.

If you put your new house details in here, as well as a repeat of Sam Crawford's data, you will obtain line length & speed estimates.

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php

If you can obtain your modem statistics from:-

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php

you can then enter your downstream line attenuation in here:-

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php

Kitz will estimate the maximum speeds you should be able to achieve.

If you would like to post your stats here we can probably provide more comments.

You could also look at this section and perhaps adjust the wiring:-

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

It is best to eliminate your own house wiring when doing the modem statistics etc. whch you do by putting the filter dongle into the test socket within the master socket as illustrated in the last link.

Kind regards,
Walter

I would stay clear of Orange..Looking at what's available LLU I personally would pick Sky as you don't have O2/Be LLU enabled.

If your long line is similar to mine....I was with BT getting around 1.5mb but when I went LLU with O2 I now get around 2.5mb :)

feliscatusx2:
Please bear in mind that we have not moved in yet, therefore I can only give modem stats and wiring information for the present property which is happily running Plusnet.

The new property presently has 2 BT Landlines installed (1 is for business use)

The Kitz ADSL Exchange and Line Checker suggests .5 to 1.5 Mb for the private line which presently has no ADSL activated, but 1 to 1.5 MB for the business line which has Orange LLU already in place.

I think I will have to wait until we move in then look at the options then.

Does anybody know whether a LLU service will give a faster speed than BT?
