Tackling BT Openreach re generic broadband PSTN problems
« on: December 13, 2010, 04:06:10 PM »

Gentlefolk,

The following links describe an unfortunate situation for at least 17 broadband users some with differing ISPs.
Has anybody discovered a way to get Openreach to undertake what should presumably be standard maintenance work ?

Kind regards,
Walter

Those people have my sympathy but no solutions, I'm afraid. BT will always use the 'no USO' argument as long as they can get away with it, and while they have a black hole in their pension fund, no government is going to force them to invest in an unprofitable business.

A chainsaw came to mind :-)

Apart from the redundant wire the rest looks to be faily new in the picture.

Hi BB,

It's a GPO pole dated 1951 for what that's worth.
I'm guessing that these devices would have been partially disabled around the time of the first ADSL services, or possibly earlier if they were found to be causing too much phone unreliability.

Kind regards,
Walter
