Cooooeee! .......... I think it's about 18 months since I last logged in here for advice about Linux (Ubuntu). I eventually ran out of patience with my inability to get to grips with it!
However, a couple of months ago I began to have a re-think about it. I eventually decided that probably I'd not given Linux a fair go!
So... I've now installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a partition on my netbook! Amazingly everything I've tried has worked. My FF bookmarks are loaded and the FF UI looks exactly the same as my Windows one. Flash has been installed and the firewall is working. I've got the desktop 'sorted' and amazingly, the thing that frustrated me so much previously... that was not being able to get the bbc iplayer to work ..... well it's working absolutely fine!
I've installed the VLC media player and that's also looking good. I still have absolutely no idea what that 'sudo' stuff is about, but so far I'm well chuffed!
The bad news is, I'll probably be hanging around here and pestering you!
