Gentlefolk,
I've made a few observations on yet another horrible ADSL service I'm investigating.
The 2700 is plugged directly into a SSFP with a screened RJ11 lead.
The QLT produces a constant low level hum so we've got a phone fault booked.
I would appreciate any comments and further explanations of the observations.
The upstream tones carry a total of 120 bits whereas the downstream carry only 80 bits.
The gap between the upstream and downstream regions has 9 empty tones.
(The capped 576 service I've shown here before has 4 empty tones and the other one I'm monitoring has only 2 empty tones with sync speeds of 448 upstream and 1344 downstream.)
It appears that the diagnostic notes might be a little misleading as they state:-
Max1 Max rate at start of connection
Max2 Current or final estimated max. rate
Max3 Current or final estimated max. rate without INC
but the diagnostic page showing download speeds of:-
Rate 256 (This is the "DSL Connection Rate" as reported by the BT Speed tester)
Max1 264
Max2 68
Max3 68
I wonder if these differences are due to bit swapping being included in some of the calculations ?
Given the speed test figures below it seems as if the actual speed calculations vary quite a bit on such a slow line?
I'd guess the TBB speed of 125.77 Kbps is higher than it should be as the IP Profile is only 135 Kbps.
Kind regards,
Walter
