Getnet GA-524WA
« on: September 12, 2011, 09:28:02 AM »

Just thought I had to post on this. Not available yet but this wireless-n, ADSL router, on a well-known broadband buying site, will retail for less than £13!

How is that possible? I can only assume it's made from milk bottle tops and paperclips.

I'm thinking about buying one when it becomes available just to see if it isn't an empty plastic box with a fake aerial! :)

At that price, I suppose there's nothing to lose. :)

The getnet.eu website has firmware images for the models GA524WA and the GA524WB.

http://www.getnet.eu/products_GA-524WA.B.html

I wonder what chipset is being used..

The header of the firmware image isn't in the normal Broadcom format, but I spy the magic number ("sqsh") for a big-endian squash file system.

There are tools that can be used to extract the file system image (if it is squashfs) for those who want to modify the firmware.

Although often, the manufacturer modifies the code for the squash tools to make this as difficult as possible!

Cheers, a
