SpeedTouch Firmware Availability
« on: November 04, 2010, 10:10:15 AM »

I have a 546(i) v6 with firmware 6.2.17.5.

Where do Thompson make available for download firmware for their products?

I'm not sure that they do. They seem to have distanced themselves from end customers and expect ISPs to provide support.

I've purchased my ST546 directly and not through an ISP.

Closest I got was:

http://www.speedtouch.nl/software.html#516

But I don't speak Dutch.

Google Translate:

Quote
SpeedTouch 516/546 and 516i/546i
The following is also valid for the hardware variant v6 (marked 546iv6 516v6 or the modem).
Firmware - new version of the router modem software.
Download 5x6 Upgrader R6.1.0.5 for Windows (6.5 MB)
Download Upgrader 5x6v6 R6.2.T.2 for Windows (5.0 MB v6 variant only)
Using the Upgrade Wizard in Vista requires a user with Administrator rights and network interface must be temporary in a fixed IP address provided (eg 192.168.1.100).
After performing the upgrade, reconfiguration of the SpeedTouch 516/546 necessary. The following configuration wizard can be used for this.
We do not recommend previously saved configuration files (user.ini) to the modem to load because it can not be compatible with the new firmware.

WORD OF WARNING

If you flash any device make sure you know 100% it is the right firmware.

I think that is very old firmware anyway.

This site kept comming up:

This may be closer.

But only seems to have guides and manuals.

I would contact them and ask, they may have an FTP site for downloads.

www.technicolorbroadbandpartner.com : Technicolor ST546v6

5) Driver/firmware request: Technical support is not allowed to send a copy of the end-user CD-ROM (driver, firmware, user guide...); all available software is published on http://www.technicolorbroadbandpartner.com/dsl-modems-gateways/products/index.php .

For all other software, please refer to your ISP. Most of the time, Operators and ISPs use customized software with specific configurations.

Looks like you are out of luck and Roseway was correct ISP only.

But if you say you purchased it why would you want to put an ISP firmware on it?

I know I would not.

If there is a firmware update and they won't let you have it I would send the device back for a refund.

Try giving them an expensive phone call:
United Kingdom  0906 3022114  (0,50 £/min)

This may be cheaper:
saynoto0870.com - 020 7309 0226

I phoned them on 020 7309 0226 never realy got anywhere but they said send an Email to them asking why they have this policy for end users.

As I said before if you can't update send it back.

What is the latest firmware you would recommend for the ST546? If it's later than 6.2.17.5, do you have a copy you could send me?

I am sorry for the late replies..

My site has moved and is currently down. I will have the F/W's back up in the next week and will post a new message with the new URL for them. In the meantime if you look here: http://support.zen.co.uk/kb/Knowledgebase/Thomson-Speedtouch-Firmware-and-Drivers some of the Drivers and the Upgrade wizard.

The 546 F/W I will have on the fault.

Try these links :
http://mirror.opensourcehub.com/pub/speedtouch/
http://mirror.opensourcehub.com/pub/speedtouch/utilities/UpgradeWiz/

http://www.speedtouchforum.de/viewtopic.php?t=1089

I've used the "7.4.3.2 International ST5x6_ZZQ2AA7.432.zip" from the 2nd site with my ST546v6,
but didn't do a lot of testing at the time.
( It's currently got a version of 6.x firmware on it as I've been using it with the DMT tool )
