Hi This is a bit hard to explain
But I'm trying to help someone on another forum.
Someone was asking me about AOL Upto 24 mbps.
As he believed himself to be on AOL Upto 8 mbps - & - Wanted to know if it would cost more money to upgrade to Upto 24 mbps.
Note: For the actual Broadband Side of Things... AOL Upto 8 mbps - OR - AOL Upto 24mbps ... Can Both = £14.99
But when this person posted his routers stats...
Sync... Down = 12004 | Up = 1020
SNR... Down = 3.4 | Up = 7.0
Attenuation... Down = 29.0 | Up = 11.3
&.... ADSL2Plus
Well this to me looks like he's already on Upto 24 mbps
Trouble Is!
His Throughput Is... Down = 7.70 mbps | Up 0.82 mbps
Could it be that AOL have upgraded him to ADSL2+ ( Hence the Sync of 12004 ) But capping him at 8 mbps ?
Because he hasn't actually agreed to an Upto 24 mbps contract yet.
Note...
Bit Like Talk Talk Have The Essentials Package.
But then I think they have to get the
Now Free Speed Boost to actually lift the cap of 8 mbps - & - be able to get Upto 24 mbps.
OR
Is it more likely that he's just getting bad speeds because of Noise on the line or something?
Note: His Down Noise Margin Was Only... 3.4
Note...
His Stats From Kitz CalculatorDownstream Attenuation = 29
Approx Line Length = 2.1 km
adsl2+ (LLU) = 16000
Throughput 14160
Basically! Is it possible to Sync at 12 mbps .. But still only be on an Upto 8 mbps contract?
Guess I should have just asked that to start with
Thanks!
Zoe
