Cordless Keyboard and Mouse
« on: August 25, 2010, 04:32:34 PM »

Hi all,

I am using a Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse at present (MX 3000 Laser). Is it possible to change the mouse for a different one and still keep using the same keyboard,or do you have to replace them both. When I click the mouse it sometimes clicks twice instead of once, the scrolling is ok.So I thought it might be on its way out.

It has one of those receivers that plugs into a usb port.

Unc,  you know the extent  my technical prowess   ::)  but I have a cordless mouse which, every so often,  goes on the blink, if thumping it doesn't work I have just replaced the batteries and that has done the trick ... but you might  have already tried that   :)

There's no reason why you shouldn't dump the mouse and buy a separate one while continuing to use the keyboard. A separate cordless mouse will come with its own base station plugged into another USB port, and should coexist quite happily with the keyboard. I use a Microsoft cordless mouse, which is very good indeed (I bet you never thought you'd hear me say that :) ).

Thank you for replies. :)

@Kate..The batteries are rechargeable ones and get replaced when the warning light comes on.As for thumping it,I wouldn't in case I broke a nail  ::)  :D

That sounds ok then Eric, tbh the keyboard is excellent so I might look at a new mouse. As I have said the scrolling and cursor movement is fine its just the clicking,as an example...sometimes when you click on a smiley to use it will post 2 instead of 1.Then sometimes you click and nothing happens,as though you haven't clicked hard enough(I hope that makes sense)
I'm not sure how long they last for before they wear out..I have been using it most days for the last 3.5 years.

This was a reply I have just received from Logitech support.

Thank you for contacting Logitech's Customer Care.

As I understand the mouse that is part of your MX3000 combo set no longer works.

The mouse cannot be replaced with another one since the receiver is paired to the product.

What issues are you having with the mouse?
When did you purchase this keyboard set?

 ???

Just got this reply after I queried not being able to use a separate mouse from my keyboard

You can of course purchase a new mouse, but it would work on its own receiver, and not from the same one as the keyboard.

Just to update.

I have been told my existing Logitech product is still under warranty, but I didn't have my receipt,so was told to send a photo and also a photo of the serial number under the keyboard and also take a photo of the keyboard with a  number which was emailed to me at the side of it.
I was then emailed back and said the desk top set which I have is no longer available so would this one be ok.

I said yes, so one is being shipped to me.

What fantastic support from Logitech  :clap2:
