Broadband areas
« on: July 21, 2010, 01:37:10 PM »

At a meeting yesterday we were discussing improving the broadband for a charity project I am involved with.  The client had been advised it would depend upon which area they fall within either black, grey or white.

Does anyone know about these and where I can find which area we fall within.

Thanks

Hi GOM,

That's actually quite simple !

The following is an extract of a local (for me) document but which is probably from generic EEC documentation.

Further, there are European Community defined black, white and grey areas to distinguish between areas where no broadband infrastructure exists or is unlikely to be developed in the near term (white areas), areas where only one broadband network operator is present (grey areas) and areas where at least two or more broadband network providers are present (black areas).

PM me for more info if you want.

Kind regards,
Walter

Are you interested in improving the actual network infrastructure (installing fibre etc), or are you simply looking to see which optional services are currently available?

Does anyone have any experience of laying down fibre (over <1km, well in fact over longer distances too..)?

I have no idea what the costs are. In fact I don't even have a feeling for log10(costs) ?

[Should actually have asked this in a separate thread?]

Thank you for the replies.

I now understand and I think my client will be in a black area.
