Thanks Stuart, but I think this is a different issue. The forum software automatically prepends http:// to any links which don't already start that way, even when they're inside [ url=....] tags. So it messes up URLs which start with ftp:// as in the example in this thread.

Sorry I missed that, I assumed because it displayed OK it would work OK when I posted my link. I just tested on another forum using the same s/w and it fails as well. I dont often post ftp links as is obvious from this

I remembered there is an FTP tag (and an insert ftp link icon as well)....

Just another quik hanx to all who've replied to this thread...and glad it's helped clear out some issues too 

no doubt I'll be back to ask bit's'n'pieces about setting up and getting the best out of the 2740...had a quick play with 2.93 fw, but think I'm not getting something on the setup and have reverted back to trusty 2640 until I get time to play with the t'other a bit more
