21CN and LLU future for Lambourn Exchange
« on: June 15, 2010, 01:28:31 PM »

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question, apologies if it isn't

Is there any way to get definitive information on when an exchange is going to get LLU ISPs or 21CN other than:
http://www.simplifydigital.co.uk/broadband/Lambourn

I'd love to know when, if this exchange is going to be upgraded, or if any providers are going to provide LLU type ADSL max, instead of this shocking IPStream BTWholesale provision i'm having to deal with.

Anytime after 5pm i'm not even getting close to the 6Mbits i'm syn'd at and IPProfile'd at, it's more like 600kb to 1.5Mbits which is shocking for the price i'm paying.

Any advice, links, help would be as ever greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
T

Hi Zoe,

That's great, thank you! I had already seen the Samknows page, but the other one I had not. Sadly Lambourn isn't listed, but at least I know not to expect anything soon.

Cheers,

Hi  :)

Oh Dear!  :(

Know how frustrating it is when you've got a duff exchange.
My exchange is on the FTTC list for 31st December 2010
However!
My exchange is rubbish when it comes to choice of LLU ISPs.

3 of them are all owned by 1
Talk Talk
AOL
Tiscali
Are all owned by... Talk Talk  ::)

And the only others are...
Orange - No Way!
Sky - Can't Afford!

I'd have loved to be with... LLU O2 ... Instead of LLU AOL

Fingers Crossed! - You see your exchange added to the list real soon  ;)

Hi Zoe  :)

No sign of my exchange (Attercliffe) being upgraded

At least my exchange is O2 LLU, and that's who I'm with.£7.50 a month,I.m really pleased with them.I only get around 2.5mb,but that's because I'm on a long line,not O2's fault.

Their support is UK based and excellent

Zoe - aren't you somewhere on Deeside, or am I confusing you with someone else??? If you are over that way, what I want to know is why Deeside is getting FTTC and yet Wrexham and Wrexham North exchanges aren't - seems a bit bizarre that a more highly-populated area is being left out

Gentlefolk,

I don't think it's just population size that affects availability dates. The availability of black (unused) fibre or even ducts is likely to have a significant effect.

That said, poor old Lambourn with under 2000 addresses is likely to be well down the list.

Here's another list which looks as if it's been extracted from some type of BT document.

http://www.idnet.net/support/fibreavailability.jsp

I expect that a local interest group will be needed to explore what options might be available as a DIY project.
You might try:-

Thanks for that walt....it's just soooo frustrating, what with being caught in the tiscali/TT crossfire, and no sign of a FTTC service on the horizon to run away bravely to !! :D

p.s. for ref, the Wrexham North (smaller exchange) has 11,000 lines, Wrexham has 22,500 lines...(and still no FTTC date)

I know!
When I phoned them round about January ( Just to be 100% certain that I couldn't have - O2 LLU ) they were really nice.  ;)
And they were honest enough to tell me that I'd be better off staying with AOL ( Rather than paying more for less - O2 Access )

Hello peeps!

FAO Walter: One of the downsides of living in a rural, idyllic and beautiful location is that sadly technology tends to not follow.

I didn't expect 21CN to be coming anytime soon, perhaps end of 2011, beginning of 2012. I would be very happy with some LLU ISP though, again sadly as you state Lambourn exchange isn't the busiest hehe.

All i'd like is for the ADSL provided to actually "be" good enough to do anything with. As soon as peak time comes, the speed and quality is attrocious. Latency, packet loss, jitter all make any kind of internet based gaming nigh on impossible. When the weather is nice enough to actually enjoy the location I won't truly care, but come autumn and wintertime i'd like to be able to play a little.

Anyway, thank you all for the advice and help .. and derail the thread as much as you like

Cheers,
T

Hi T,

You might like to check here from time to time:-

http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/?exchange=Lambourn&exact=4368&plugin=vp

BT are not reporting any loading issues so perhaps you need a more expensive ISP?

If on the other hand you think it is a line quality issue that should be recorded with Routerstats and your ISP asked to chase it up with BT Openreach.

Kind regards,
Walter

Hi Walter,

I was under the impression UKOnline where one of the best, part of the Easynet group which I think is also Sky now?

Who would you recommend if I may ask? I think i've been "locked" into a 12 month contract but being with UKOnline for four years previously I believe may give me some flexibility, adding to that the terrible service i've had albeit mostly due to BTWholesale...

Routerstats reports everything is fine now, I drop from 9.5db to 7db at night time as i'd expect.

Kind regards,
T

Hi T,

Might I suggest a PM to Azzaka who should be in a position to comment on any contention issues etc.

Kind regards,
Walter
