1 June - "Flaming June"
« on: June 01, 2010, 11:59:01 AM »

"Flaming June" my old dad used to say.
Not sure if he was cussing it or hoping for hot sunny weather.
Wet here.
Cheers, Peter

Also wet here in deepest Gloucestershire - and the grandkids now have "cabin fever"!   :'(

Time for SuperGrandpa to think of an absorbing game to play - anyone out there think of any that don't need a TV, computer or batteries?  The Lego is distracting 2 of them at the moment.

I remember, quite a few years ago now, sitting in my basement flat in central London (near Baker St.) watching snow fall AND SETTLE on the patio outside on June 1st!

Well what do you know, it's the same weather here. Grey, wet and miserable.
Colin: Snakes and ladders, Ludo, cards (snap, fish etc.). I spy. Just a few to start you going.
I bet you haven't got any of the old board games.
Just wait everyone by the end of this month you could indeed be saying "Flaming June", out in the garden with the barbie going.

It's wet here too. :(

What to do with 5 young kids on a rainy day? I'm afraid I'm hopeless with kids, and the kind of activities which come to mind would probably be frowned on by the health and safety police. ;D

Scotland looks like the only place not to get rain at present.

This radar/weather service shows what is happening ( and is a lot more accurate than most other forecasts) >>  http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ <<

Mind you here in Dorset we certainly need the rain, it has been an exceptionally dry year for us so far.

Our kids never enjoyed doing anything that was restricted by H&S so, appropriate to their age and after reminding them of the risks,  we let them get on with it.
Surprisingly few injuries considering.

Just been looking at some old videos with one of them, general comment was "you'd never be allowed to do that now - stupid rules"

I think kids need to be allowed to take some risks, in order to learn lessons for life. If you're over-protective as a parent, they grow up knowing nothing about actions and consequences.

>> I bet you haven't got any of the old board games.

I had thought of taking them out to my woodworking shop and letting them loose with the power tools!   >:D   Then grandma (SWMBO) stepped in - spoilsport!   :baby:

We did in fact get all the old board games out and ludo has been declared the favourite, except when on of the tiddles (or was it a wink?) ended up in my cup of tea.  What on earth tiddlywinks orphans were doing there I have no knowledge.   ???

I haven't enjoyed myself so much in years!
