Hi

Just got a Netgear 348G wireless router for my new Sky B/B. (I know...risky!)
The deal was to good not to try. All in package.....saving me a bundle .

Anyway, I was wondering if it's worth shelling out for the WG311 PCI card or will the USB WG111 plug in thingy suffice?

Any help or advice most welcome.

I've no experience of them, but I imagine that the USB device will work. Best of all is a direct ethernet connection of course.

theres pros and cons of both.

if u have spare cash and a free pci slot, then the pci card would b tooked away inside your pc which saves a usb port for other things.

but if u stay with the us dongle then you can disconnect it and fit it easily to any machine with a spare usb port.

i've accidentally snapped a dongle off a usb port b4 which knackered the dongle and stopped my machine POSTing (usb ports dont like being earthed!).

driver wise, they're almost identicle so no probs there but the pci might get a little more range coz it has a 3 inch ariel.

Eric, I have my existing Netgear connected with Ethernet. Are you saying I'd be better off connecting the Sky wireless one in the same way?
What problems am I likely to come up against with wireless?

It's advisable to keep at least one computer connected with ethernet, because wireless connections can have problems - if you misconfigure the wireless, for example, you could easily lose all contact with the router; and if a neighbour starts up on the same channel there could be a conflict.

If the router is physically near the PC then it's no contest; use ethernet.
