agree with walter this wiring is only going to go bad. Yes NTE5 faceplate and test port can go faulty. If its the test port that is faulty that would be BT's responsibility to fix that is off course if they don't find some polish that has found its way in there causing issues which can happen if the wife decides to do a clean up and polishes the socket lol in that case your friend would face the charges. The ball is in your court and whatever you want to do with this but if it was me the NTE would be getting replaced.
