C/A Forums
« on: March 30, 2010, 07:11:54 AM »

Strange one this,
when I try and access the Computer Active forums via this link it won't work.

http://forums.v3.co.uk/

But if I use this link it will

http://forums.computeractive.co.uk/

And they both lead to the same forums.  ???

Tried both in FF and Opera.......

Thanks Eric,

Does that mean they have closed the site permanently or is it just a temporary measure?

What it means is that they haven't paid the bill, so the registration of the domain has lapsed. If they pay the bill now, the domain will start working again, but if they leave it unpaid it will eventually revert to being an unowned domain which anyone could buy if they so wished.

@TD, I suspect that Opera is using cached data. If you were to clear the cache, the first link probably wouldn't work any longer.

Thanks Eric........Looks like a whip round could be in order.  ;D

According to www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com the site is up,is that because there is nothing wrong with the site apart form an unpaid bill?

I cleared the cache/history/cookies etc.........shut down Opera which will again clear the cache...ran ccleaner to clear out remnants....fired up Opera again...........and the site is still opening fine, as attached.

Don't know why.

The first one doesn't work for me, I get a similar error notice to the one that you were getting for this forum TD.

I don't really know what to make of this. The domain v3.co.uk definitely seems to be unresponsive. If (for example) I try to ping it I get this response:

eric@songthrush:~$ ping v3.co.uk
ping: unknown host v3.co.uk

So at the moment, even a DNS lookup on the site fails for me. I suppose that it could just be that the underlying problem has been fixed, and DNS propagation is not yet complete. That might explain why TD gets a response but others don't. But I'm fast exhausting my knowledge of the subject. :)

Slightly different story at Whois..............account not suspended, but in the process of renewal.

Who to believe ?

ps I go to whois direct, and not through Kitz forum

The whois result has changed since I ran the enquiry earlier this morning. I now see the same as you:

    Registration status:
        Renewal request being processed.

It looks as though they've paid the bill recently.

... and the link works now

I guess that it is a matter of DNS propagation then. It should come back to life soon.
