Clamp down on illegal file sharers.
« on: July 10, 2006, 06:56:17 PM »

The British Phonographic Industry have demanded that C+W and Tiscali clamp down on illegal file sharing by requesting that the ISPs suspend 59 of their users accounts which they believe are involved in using p2p to swap copyrighted material.

42 users have been identified from C&W (who own Bulldog) and 17 from Tiscali.

The BPI has already taken legal action with more than 150 illegal filesharers in December 2005.  More than half of them paid settlements of up to ?6,500 to avoid court action.

A follow up from tiscali on this

Tiscali refuses to unmask 'file-sharers'

A Tiscali spokeswoman described the move as a 'media ambush'. She said the BPI had ?[sent] their letter to the media before we even had a chance to read it and the information they went to press with was not strictly correct?.

I still maintain the only way these people can trace anyone is by deliberately sharing copywrite material, or downloading copywrite material from you themselves, to be able to get your IP address.

And I still maintain this borders on "Entrapment" by putting up the material for you to DL.

Or "Theft" by taking material from your PC knowing it is copyright.
