attenuation 58db with just modem 61.5db with phone ???
« on: February 10, 2010, 05:22:54 PM »

is there any way to improve this? ive run a line in cat5e from the master sockets test socket, it then feeds a single Xf-1e filter which connects to the modem via a belkin shielded adsl cable and a panasonic dect phone. the modem is a billion 7402nx. is there anything i can do to improve things eg. better filters?

Hello and welcome to the forums.  :)

Wiring the extension into a good quality filtered faceplate may help.

Some things you could try:

Double filtering the telephone.

Test with different telephone.

Test with a different microfilter.

Try with the microfilter directly into the test socket, and telephone and modem directly into the microfilter using short cables.

Those microfilters are certainly considered to be one of the better designs available.

Have you tried connecting a filter directly into the test socket - basically to isolate any issues with the internal extension wiring.

Also, be aware on an ADSL MAX product if there are too many disconnects over a relatively short period of time the Dynamic Line Management may view this as instability and reduce your IP profile accordingly.  When testing be gentle with the DLM process by ensuring you are only dropping the connection once or twice in an hour; best to drop the PPP connection first then power off the router before removing any cables..

Well for the 7402NX, using the router GUI, it would be:
Status > WAN > Disconnect Button

Taking another common example of ADSL router, the Netgear DG834Gv4, in the GUI the process would be:
Router Status > Connection Status > Disconnect Button
