Yw TD,I know you are an avid Opera user and probably will know most of those tips, but I guess someone who has never tried it before could find it of use.

The only thing putting me off giving it a go is if it is compatible with online banking sites and such like.?

I mostly use Firefox but I also use Opera as well and like it (there is no problem having both browsers installed on your PC).  I especially use Opera for my banking and suchlike and have no problems with it - I find its default typeface is slightly larger and easier to read than Firefox.  :)

Opera also has the ability to "edit site preferences" for individual sites and through that to adjust javascript settings, certificates etc. and by fiddling with these I, like jazz, have no problem with the vast majority of https sites.

The main problem lies with any site authored by Microsoft ( such as Hotmail) where Msoft have restricted the ability to use them to IE, Firefox and Safari.

Other than that....no problem.

Can't see anything.

How do you set your homepage?

and how do you access speed dial(other than opening a new tab)

Via "Tools" (on top line) you should get a drop down menu offering the option of "Appearance".  This allows you to set the bars and lines that you want on the page.  That top line can then also include "Bookmarks" button.  For Speed Dial instructions the Opera Help page is the easiest to follow - find it at

http://help.opera.com/Windows/10.10/en/speeddial.html

For other general help on Opera go to http://help.opera.com/

Just a thought, unkyUb............what version have you downloaded ( tools>about Opera)

The current is version 10.10. There is a beta version to be had (10.50) which uses quite a different UI to the previous versions........have you got that by mistake ?

Gone back to FF,

Couldn't sort out the bookmarks marks.I like have a side book marks bar and also the top smart bookmarks bar for FF.I also have Google toolbar with the auto fill button and the gmail button. One minute the bookmarks were then then the had gone  ???

I did find it fairly quick though.

I think I will have another session with it when I have more time as I quite liked it  :)

Now what about Chrome.  ;D

It does take a little playing around with when first used.......but there is an awful lot underneath the bonnet, no need for any add-ons or plug-ins.

Side Bar...........Opera calls this a  "panel"..............to get it go view>toolbars and click the option "panels"

Home page.............open up the page you want to set as home and with that still open go tools>preferences>home page and click the box "use current"

Bookmarks.............can you see them if you go bookmarks>manage bookmarks.
If not they might not have "taken", so if you open firefox and export them to C;\documents and settings\owner or your name or whatever identifier\application data\Opera\Opera\bookmarks.adr
