Finding DG834GT error stats
« on: February 04, 2010, 10:06:31 PM »

Hi
Have often seen reference to error stats - eg:" . . .  Different routers have different ways of reporting it. Some say simply "Channel: Interleaved" or "Channel: FastMode" and others state a value for interleaving depth. If you don't see anything like this, have a look at the error section - if you see a value for FEC errors this will imply that the connection is interleaved." - posted by Roseway.
I can access stats via Routerstats, but have not seen reference to FEC errors etc.
Any suggestions as to how to access these would be greatly appreciated.

Roseway
Thanks for reply - but this is where I've been before - but cannot see reference to actual errors (FECs etc.)
I must be missing something. (please don't say brain)

I'm afraid I'm not using a DG834GT at the moment, so I can't check. Hopefully someone else will know.

Stats can be found via telnet to the DG834GT and entering the following:

# cat /tmp/adsl-stats (note that the # symbol is the busybox prompt so only enter 'cat /tmp/adsl-stats')

An alternative is to use http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/DMTv8.htm

Tried Telnet - typed telnet & ip address.
Got 'black box,but no request for login as guide shows.
Said type "help" for list of commands (or somesuch)
But not sure what to do then.

I think there's an extra stage you have to go through to enable telnet: in a browser type

http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug

which should result in an almost blank page with the words 'Debug enable'.

After that you can telnet into the router as described above.

I think light is dawning. :)

Your router is set up without a password, so when you telnet into it you go straight in without having to log in. You should immediately be able to enter commands, such as the one mentioned above:

cat /tmp/adsl-stats

or you could try

adslctl info --stats

By the way, I do recommend that you set up a password in the router web interface.

Thanks for your patience.
Didn't spend too long looking as wanted to come back to pass on thanks - did try to copy - but no go.
Do I presume you have to read & remember (joke!) or is there a way?

Excellent! :)

I don't use Windows, so I can't help with the last question, but I presume there's some way to copy and paste text from a command-line window.

Roseway - very many thanks for your help - again.
I found this which may be of use to anyone following this & who is as 'green' as me.:

"Here is a quick tip on how to copy the Command Prompt output to the clipboard.

"Select All" and "Copy" options in the context menu:

Right-click anywhere in the Command Prompt, and click Select All
Press {ENTER}. The output is now copied to the Windows clipboard."

Haven't tried it yet though!

Yep - it works - copied & then pasted into Word to read at leisure.
