I dont have the DG834GT to hand atm to check.
I do. Just changed to 110% and clicked Apply - it just resynced (I was also monitoring with DMT).

Hanx k9...just thought I'd make sure...

Just out of interest, some quick observations.....

                    D-Link 2640B     v     834GT v1.02.14

D/s atten             48                             46
U/s atten             22.5                          25.5

for two routers that use the same chipset, I'm suprised at the differences. Also the GT has dropped PPP a few times, but that may be 'coz it was synced at too low snrm to get 5312 sync, whereas the 2640B has just come off 4 weeks solid at 5248..only interrupted to plug in the GT.

Early days, I'll see what happens with DGTeam f/w.......

Update after having various plays

routers used:-

D-Link 2640B f/w 4.01 + tweaked DMT v8.07 (to allow connection)
D-Link 2640B f/w 3.06 + standard DMT v8.07
Netgear DG834GT f/w's v1.02.14, 1.02.16, 1.03.32 and DGTeam 848 (various combos of DMT 8.07, Routerstats and DGTeam tweaks)

Looks like D-link wins on my line

In fact, the slightly older one with v3.06 is what I've settled on (for now ), with DMTv8.07 giving me:-

Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps): 5632 768
SNR Margin (dB): 7.6 13.0
Attenuation (dB): 48.0 24.0
Output Power (dBm): 12.3 19.8

However, I've gone back to the later 2640B, with v.4.01 f/w, now getting

Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps): 5472 800
SNR Margin (dB): 7.0 13.0
Attenuation (dB): 47.0 23.0
Output Power (dBm): 12.3 19.8

which looks like the max I can get without instability setting in due to error build-up

Hi GunJack

Out of interest, do you know which make of DSLAM you are connected to?  Mine is TI and after exhaustive tests with "a multitude of routers" I have found the 2700HGV to be the most stable.    I suspect the DSLAM is as important as the make of router (ie chipset compatibility) or the firmware used.  The DGTeam fw allowed me a higher profile on the DG834GT but it was never entirely stable, and had too high a level of errors for my liking.

It is great fun fiddling and tweaking with various routers - but I am still searching for the ultimate definitive Holy Grail of routers!

Hi Pfrog,

I am looking after two HGV2700s connecting into a TI and an annonymous DSLAM / MSAN on the same exchange. They both perform as well as can be excpected on horrible long lines with attenuations over 75 dB @ 300 kHz on their diagnostics pages.

I believe 2Wire use an Atheros chipset so in this case I doubt if the DSLAM / MSAN has much influence. Do be careful with the 2700 re automatic firmware upgrades and a number of other "features".

See http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/031.htm for V 5 firmware and

http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm

for all the gory details.

Kind regards,
Walter

Hi Walter

Thanks for the response.....  Yes, I am aware of the auto update issue with the 2700hgv.  I currently have v 5.29.117.6 (having tried SBC et al) with DNS poisoning, but I do understand that this is not always successful in stopping the upgrade?  My line is not terrible at c 48db and currently the 2700hgv is syncing at 3456 @12db snr, whereas the Zyxel will sync at c 3750 but not enough to push up the profile..  Unfortunately much less than 12db SNR introduces too much instability at night (long runs of overhead cable) whichever router is in play - believe me I have tried!

The modem (as opposed to modem / router) which gives me the highest stable sync without any tweaking is the single port Zyxel P-660R-D1 when used in half-bridge mode, - which is TI AR7 based.  However at the moment I need the extra ports / firewall of the 2700hgv.

So, for the time being at any rate I just have to be content with either the 2700hgv, or the Zxyel.  I am on a small country exchange with no hope of ever having ADSL2!  But always on the lookout for something better!

Best regards

Ey up guys,

I'm on a tiscali DSLM in my exchange, and from what little I can find I believe it's a bcm-based one.

Interestingly, I've just aquired a third 2640B for my mum & dad, who are on the same exchange, further away, and on a talktalk DSLAM. Their line is approx 54dB, and even with DMT all I can get is 2500k sync @ just under 10dB snrm. Also, the reported attenuation and power levels are a bit flaky.

Think the old-ish tt dslam is based on a different chipset (poss TI, any ideas anyone ??) judging by the notable performance difference :(
