Missing albums
« on: July 17, 2007, 10:21:21 PM »

I hope you guys can help me out.  In our last house move I lost a box of albums which I'm desperate to replace so if anyone has a copy of anything on this list, do let us know asap.  There's a big gap on my shelf, right between Led Zeppelin and Nickelback.

That's a good site for nostalgia Steph. I remember this very well - far better than TOTP.

Was she the original one with Pussy Cat Willum? Succeeded by Wally Whyton?

I think they alternated, or was it that Walley did Five O'clock Club, but Ollie, Fred & Willum also appeared with the continuity announcers? Also there was Redvers Kyle, the geezer with the slicked-back dark hair.

It used to be called 'smart'. Men of my parents' generation used to plaster their hair down like that, and you were considered a bit rough if you didn't do it. As a brash teenager I knew better though - I used some even more revolting stuff called Brilliantine. :)

QUOTE:

The star of Small Time, when it transferred to the early evening in 1959, was Pussy Cat Willum devised and animated by Janet Nicholls. He appeared with Wally Whyton, Bert Weedon and Muriel Young or Liz Shingler. Willum achieved superstar status, receiving as many as 400 letters per week.

QUOTE

On Friday 16th October 1959 Patrick Boyle told us the very first Tum story which was followed by Muriel Young talking to Pussy Cat Willum, a glove puppet devised and animated by Janet Nicholls. This started regular birthday chats following the Small Time programme and over the years Pussy Cat Willum appeared with Liz Shingler, Bert Weedon and Wally Whyton as well as Muriel Young (see right). Other 'soon to become famous' puppets started life here before making it big in the Five O’Clock Club were Ollie Beak, voiced by Wally Whyton and Fred Barker, voiced by Ivan Owen.

Looks like my memory served me well, Muriel Young, then Wally Whyton - don't remember Bert Weedon doing it though.
