POOR PERFORMANCE 8MEG ADSL HELP!!
« on: March 04, 2010, 05:08:07 PM »

Hello,

I have currently been messing about with my line i am using wireless belkin G mimo router at 54mbps and with o2 on 8meg. I am only reciving 5meg download speeds which i think is very poor considering what my router is syncing at. I have just bought a new master socket which is a nte5a suppose to help improve my line noise and stability of my connection.

What i have hooked upto my wireless network :

* Playstation 3
* Desktop pc

Wireless signal says excellent but i think this is a bit of a little lie.

Here are my speeds from my router.

UP           DOWN
 Data rate (Kbps)
10528    1256

Noise margin (dB)
5.9             6.1

Output power (dBm)
19.9    12.4

 Attenuation (dB)
39.0    20.6

Hello Cro and welcome,

You will see that your modem speed is quite good.
I suggest you take several speed readings at different times of the day with only your PC connected.

You should then be able to see if contention is an issue.

Kind regards,
Walter

could it be something to do with the wireless connection losing speed?

thanks walter hope i can resolve this issue

Have you tried with an ethernet connection ?

Also have you tried using the O2wireless box ?

Does the Belkin have a Broadcom chipset ?

Hi

Your synch speed is spot on for your attenuation(corrected  )

quote : always the speed is the same 5megs max. i would of thought i would of got 7?

I would expect nearer 8Mbps+ all things being equal.

quote :I have just bought a new master socket which is a nte5a suppose to help improve my line noise and stability of my connection.

From your limited stats your line looks good ,but to be sure that there are no significant errors causing slowdowns can you post your full stats .

Regards Jeff
edit  just realised you said your on 8megs?? that is odd with your synch speed.the connection is not an 8 meg connection.  the full stats should confirm you are on adsl2+  .

Have you tried with an ethernet connection ?

YES - faster

Also have you tried using the O2wireless box ?

YES - just same speed if not slower

Does the Belkin have a Broadcom chipset ?

Not sure - how do i find this information?

my router is a Belkin G+ MIMO (F5D9630)

I think it uses an Infineon (Huawei) chipset. O2 LLU is Broadcom.

Also Belkin routers generally do not have a good reputation compared to other manufacturers.

Having said that I never had any complaints with my F5D7633 on an Orange connection but it synced lower than the O2 TG585v7 when I migrated to O2.

I'm surprised the O2 router returned a worse performance.
