ink
« on: July 16, 2007, 09:25:11 PM »

I've just changed all four cartridges on my printer, so of course am now looking for the cheapest replacements.  Any suggestion as to websites gratefully received, I only use genuine Epson though, having had bad experiences with compatibles

Anne,  I've used this one ...Inkcycle  and never had any problems ....    I use another one now because there is no postage charge to France !!   WHEN I find the darn link I'll post it  .... ::)

http://www.inkcycle.co.uk/

Anne,  I've just found the other link  .....http://www.proprint.co.uk/index.htm

BUT  they only do compatibles  ..   I've used this firm for a long time now, excellent service    and I have to say I've NEVER had problems with compatibles on my Epson printers ....  I  was forced to  change printer when I upgraded to XP ..but if you prefer not to use them  I can definitely recommend Ink Cycle. :)    Kate

Thanks for the links Kate, I've found one which is a couple of pound cheaper called inkraider.co.uk but I would rather go with a recommendation.  I bought the last lot at PC World because I was in a hurry, but they are more than £10  dearer

Another option is a computer fair, if one is held near you. These always have one or two traders selling ink cartridges for a lot less than the high street shops.

>> Another option is a computer fair,

Sorry to take this slightly OT, but does anyone these days find some of the entrance prices a bit extortionate - or is it just round here that they pushed the prices too high?
Many years ago I'd quite happily spend a few hours browsing the fairs and picking up bits and pieces..  and I used to go to quite a few.

But these days it irks me to pay £3.50 to go in and have a look around.  If theres 2 of you thats £7 so its hardly worth popping in for some cable or a NIC and not worth it unless youre looking for something specific. :(

The only regular computer fairs in Kent are held by Technofair, and they charge £2 or £2.50 depending on the location. I used to visit them regularly, but now I only go if I'm in the market for something. £3.50 does sound high. :(

I agree, Kitz, £3-50 is getting OTT.
The only advertising they do around here is pop out with some A4 card and a few cable ties and strap them to the traffic lights. Not a great expense.
You really have to buy something to try and recoup your money.

With my Epson r300 printer I have only ever used original cartridges once in 3 years (those were the ones that came with the printer).

As my local Epson dealer "used to sell compatible cartridges" I decided to give them a go.
(Epson threatened them with taking away their dealership if they continued to sell compatibles)

As I use quite a lot of ink I decided to try compatibles and have never looked back.
A full set of 6 can be generally be obatined for between £5 - 6 (yes £5 for all 6) against £50 - £60 for genuine cartridges.

I don't really use any one particular supplier and generally look around for the best deals.
Although I would be lying if I said I have never had a problem with a very small amount of cartridges, (maybe 2 or 3 out of 50 have not worked properly) but as I tend to buy 4 or 5 sets at once it's never been a problem just to replace the faulty one.

Before our inket printers broke one by one and we invested in a laser printer instead, we used to buy compatible cartridges from Choice Stationery. They were always friendly and reliable. Delivery varied a little but they usually arrived within a few days at the most. We did also quite like them as they were a sort of local company compared to the rest of the country.

I think you may have made me think again about compatibles, you all seem so happy with them.  I looked at soms Choice Stationery link, and I can get double the amount for quite a lot less than the price of one batch of original.  So, I'll give them a try, thanks for all the advice

I think you may have made me think again about compatibles,
In that case, these are a few of the people I have or still purchase from.

The only reason I keep changing is as said before "price"

SVP is the main one that also sends me weekly price and offer updates "of which I can always opt-out of receiving if I wanted to.
Sometimes I get mail from the others, but not very often.

disccity have since amalgamated with another company, so you will get re-directed if you click on their link.

Hi Anne, I use only genuine Epson inks,

http://tinyurl.com/yojs5p

Keep a eye on this genuine Epson site and look in Clearance center,

I got 8 packs of 4 cartridges for £15.00 each in PC world they are £29.00 each,

Even if you buy from Epson they are £24.00 each that's still a £5 saving

fletch,

Thanks fletch, but I succumbed to temptation and bought compatibles from Choice Stationery. Two packs for much less than the price of one Epson.

It will be quite some time before I know whether or not I made a wise decision, because I really don't do all that much printing, I think I might have to run off a few photos and make my family look at them
