Microsoft license type - HELP
« on: December 13, 2009, 12:58:06 PM »

Hi,

I am trying to buy Office 2007 online. I have seen couple of items but unsure about the license type. Some say "media only" and some say "OEM single". Price wise there is not much difference but what do they (License type) mean? I have seen some with "medialess license key" which I assume is just the activation code. Does OEM single mean "media ony" + "medialess license key"? I am confused.  :-\

Anyone knows of any deals on Office 2007?

Thanks in advance.

I do not know for sure but my guess is you do not get a disc (not a big issue) and you have to download the program and install using the key you purchased.

Where are you buying it from?

If it is not Microsoft or an official reseller let the buyer beware as media only could be a disc and NO licence.

Examples:

1. Media only - http://cgi.ebay.ie/Microsoft-Office-2007-FREE-postage-to-Ireland-UK_W0QQitemZ320460011978QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_Software_Software_SR?hash=item4a9ce7b9ca

2. OEM Single - http://cgi.ebay.ie/Microsoft-Office-2007-Professional-New-in-Box_W0QQitemZ330385985141QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_Software_Software_SR?hash=item4cec8a0e75

3. MLK (Medialess License Key) - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/123070

I guess there is no point buying the media only version as you can download the trial version for free from MS website and then activate using the MLK key. Wonder what OEM single means.  ???

I have seen the deal on home and student edition on Ebuyer and Amazon but I also want Outlook 2007.

If you genuinely have a schoolchild or student in the house or prepared to support your grandchild, then http://www.software4students.co.uk/  have Office 2007 Enterprise and that has Outlook 2007 in it.  They DO check the validity of your order - ie, which school or college they go to.  Luckily, I have 2 children in further education and 9 grandchildren, of which 7 are school age.

I had a gut feeling it would be Ebay.

Buy from somewhere else and save any possible grief.

I also recommend http://www.software4students.co.uk/ if you have a student in the family.
Have bought both Office 2007 and Windows 7 through them.
Cheers,

I would agree with geep and camallison.

Another option if the student has an Academic email address (.sch.uk or .ac.uk) then take a look here:-

Office 2007 Ultimate for £38.25. Its a download for 1PC only.
