Microsoft Access
« on: January 13, 2010, 04:50:37 PM »

I now have a little problem with Microsoft Access;

We are holding another army reunion this year and to keep a check on who will or will not attend I'm using Microft Access to keep a list as follows:

Field 1 Names

Field 2  Yes (Will Attend)

Field 3  Booked (The hotel)

Field 4  No (Will not attend)

In Field 2 I had a few 'Yes' but now somehow I have 'No' in the cell previously blank.  If I delete the 'Nos' and move down a cell the No reapears in the previous cell.

I tried deleting the column and starting afresh but when I open Access again the Nos were all back!
I have now deleted Field 2 and just added a 'Yes' to the Field 3 i.e. 'Yes Booked'

So the problem is not yet urgent, I'm just bothered it may occur in any other Access documents I produce, also I'd like to know what I have done to cause this, or if it is me or the Microsoft Office 2003 programme itself that is corrupted.

How long is your list?

For most things I find a table in Word or an Excel spreadsheet is easier.

I would agree with HP on this.
And there is so much you can do with the "Data" "AutoFilter"

However the problem with Access sounds as if the field you are having a problem with sounds as if it's set to say "No" by default if left either blank or field "xy or z" is set to say ?

Peter

The reason "no" appears in the blank fields is because that field is a logical data type and can only be yes/no true/false. I you open up your database in "design view" and reclassify that field as a "Text" type you can input "yes" or "no" or "don't know yet", whatever you wish in the field. Any other fields shown as Yes/no types will exhibit the same behaviour unless you amend them to, say, "Text"
