Hi,

Have had a read and just want to confirm that you must not switch your hub off at all, the network will think you have a fault and this is prob why it has throttled your speed. The 3 day thing is the amount of time required on a stable sync for the network to re profile you on the BRAS which will determine your through put, so you should expect to see an increase after that period, Your sync speeds are all over the shop but now you have remove the incorrect wiring from the NTE they may settle down if not re post but until it has been stable for 3 days you are wasting your time trying any thing else, its also worth getting a hold of a good filter or two, don't know if allowed to mention any brands so I wont unless told it is ok to do so.

thank you for this info..im new to adsl,as the BT network is dynamic [dhcp] i thought it was ok to turn the router off.i was fine for the first month turning off, only just after i got the email about exceeding my usage i experienced problems..but i even have to pay for extra usage 30p per gb,so it seems wierd they would shape me as they are making less money..
i will leave the router on for 3 - 5 days and keep checking my ip profile, throughput and sync
thank you

It's OK to mention brands so long as it's just a personal recommendation, not an advert. By far the best option technically is a filtered faceplate, such as those offered by Clarity and ADSLNation.

thank you Roseway.Do you think my bt voyager 220v hardwired router should be replaced..it is the generic 1 supplied for free by BT..so it is obviously cheaply mass produced..
And if so could you reccomend and good router?
ive heard netgear are good, but with so many models and price being a concern, lol, could you suggest a good quality mid priced router?

 :P

my stats after removing the extension and leaving router on 24 hours..

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  6944 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 907 kbps

Compared to..

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  6944 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 82 kbps

Im so happy..

Seems im all sorted now,and the next 24hrs i should get back to the 4000k profile,3800k throughput when i first got BT....things looking very promising.and i am about 1000m from the exchange so it might even exceed this :P

Thank you all  ;D ;D

Indeed we are! :)
I don't think there's any purpose to be served in changing your router. They're all mass-produced cheaply, and I don't think the Voyager 220v is any nastier than the other popular routers. Choosing the best one for your specific situation is a bit of a lottery anyway.

Sorry for butting in late on this one (not been around the past few days)... but it seems like roseway and astral have done a sterling job already.. and theres only one thing I wanted to point out.

>> DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  6944 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)

Seems like whatever you have done in the past few days have given you a better connection with a higher sync speed.  If you manage to keep that stable then you should end up with a 6000 IP profile. :)

update for today..modem online time 46 hours

sync seems to have dropped to 6784 from 6944 but ip profile is upto 5500k :)

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
IP profile for your line is - 5500 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  6784 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5114 kbps

even if it stays at this level i will be very happy..i know it should be upto 8mb but im not greedy,
4 mb is certainly enough for my needs.

I think it is safe to say the extension installed must have been completely wrong somehow..
and causing all sorts of problems..

you guy`s are awesome..all of you..
but special thanks to kitz,roseway,astral & tired  ;D ;D  ;D
couldnt have sorted it without your advice..thank you

6784 kbps is the last "notch" on the 5500 profile, as 6816 is the 1st valid sync for 6000.
I agree that it certainly looks like you managed to do something right though since youre now getting much better IP profiles :)

>> but special thanks to kitz, roseway, astral & tired

I didn't do nothing - the guys are the ones who helped you out - all credit to them :)
I'm so glad that you problem appears to be sorted.

Final update..been getting these speeds since last night/all today..
i`m assuming it will drop at peak time, but that is normal anyway

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  7648 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5923 kbps

the sync has gone up and also the profile, paying for upto 8mb and recieveing this output is very good..never thought i would say this but apologies to BT..
Customer service is appaling though

Cheers everyone for all the help..  ;D

Good news indeed. :)

Yep slight drops in speed during peak are quite normal and are to be expected, since more users are utilising the available bandwidth at the exchange.
