LLU Congestion
« on: December 19, 2009, 04:32:17 AM »

Let me apologise at the outset for the silly questions that I may ask. I am currently with an LLU provider (C&W).

1. I take it that contention issues are still something to contend with even on an LLU circuit
2. Previously when on IPStream it was possible to check the status of the exchange (VPs, etc) via the exchange checker. Is this possible with an LLU supplier.

Reason for me asking this as follows. I moved from IPstream to LLU during the summer to escape the fiasco of 21CN. For the first 2 1/2 months of being on LLU my connection was great (d/l sync 13,000 throughput 11,500). From about the middle of Nov, the connection has at times slowed down (at times down to 3 Megs, sync still 13,000). This slowdown happened virtually overnight.

However, running a speed test during quiet times results in d/l throughput consitently at 11,500+.

To my pedestrian understanding this can only be congestion but wanted to get some feedback.

One final question. Is it possible that during the first 10 weeks on LLU, I was placed on a quiet pipe and thereafter switched to another pipe which has a lot more traffic.

Many thanks for any info provided

Cheers and Seasons Greetings

Yes

Some provide this info on SS lists... but not that Im aware of for C+W.

More likely that a lot more people have now been connected to that link.    Theres quite a few ISPs that have fairly recently started using C+W as their backhaul providers.
If theres been some batch migrates to LLU at your exchange this could well explain it. :/

Many thanks for the clarity Kitz. Perhaps with all these people abandoning BT this may be the time to reconsider going back to IPStream.
