Newbie - ways of still improving BB speed / reducing noise?
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:39:24 PM »

I'm with TT and over the last 4-6 weeks, I've been slowly improving by BB speed

To cut a long story short,

Am running of a 24Mb, fast path 9db profile from TT
Line estimator suggests 13-15Mb as what I could get
I am 1.35km from my exchange
Using a BT Openreach 1.0 Filtered Faceplate as my master socket where the router is plugged in
Using a Netgear DG834N router flashed with DG Team 0848 v1.02.08 firmware
Geeting a sync speed of 6.9Mb down and 0.39 up
Attentuation is 31.5db down and 14.5 up
SNR is 50% less than 9db (tweaked on router - normally 4db) on the downsteam and 8db up
It's been rock solid for the last 2 weeks

Using RouterStats, reliable advice suggests I have significant noise on my upstream and downstream bit tones.  See chart.

Question is, what other things can I be doing to locate and resolve the interference which is holding back my sync speeds?

So far, all I can think of is replace modem cable, upgrade filtered faceplate, possibly separate cables at back of desk to avoid cross talk, etc.

Not an expert, but thankful to this site for all the info which has got me this far...

Cheers.

Hi and welcome
The estimation is correct .
Your Bits and tones do look terrible for the sort of attenuation you have .
Can you please post your SNR Margin graph .
Meanwhile this might help

Have you had this problem since the beginning .?

CAnt see the image im afraid - its currently not available so I cant comment on the bitloading and therefore Im making blind suggestions.
But could it be EMI?  (Electro Magnetic Interference).

This could come from all sorts of places... have a read of REIN fault.  The symptoms and fault checking procedure is much the same.

Thanks.

Jeff - not sure how long I've had this issue.  Things only got interesting when I upgraded to TT Boost and then found I was not getting good speeds (initially 5Mb on on a 6db profile which keep disconnecting off a Linksys WAG54GS router.

My SNR at the mo gets down to < 3.5 in the evening and rises to between 4 and 5 during the day.

Kitz - the site reasonably suggests this is the case.  I will look at this and post back.  Does getting better filters deal with this or will this be a long exercise.

Cheers,
Mo
