Google DNS was launched last week, and there's an interesting article comparing it with OpenDNS here. The last paragraph of the article about the way OpenDNS breaks DNS standards may be food for thought.

That's interesting Eric, I may give that a try.

I'd never tried OpenDNS, but if the described annoyance is true then maybe I'm glad I didn't, as it's exactly the kind of annoyance (redirecting to a search page) that irritates me intensely.

Gosh is there going to be anything that google hasnt got its finger in the pie?

by serving DNS: it would now know everywhere you were going, regardless of whether you went through Google Search or whether the site had Google Analytics installed.

Its actually beginning to be a bit scary about how much google are taking over.
It makes me laugh that Alexa is classed as spyware by the likes of so many spyware detectors... yet google is already far more intrusive and knows more about us  already than Alexa does.   Could just see the reaction if the likes of S+D etc  etc  attempted to class google in the same way it does with alexa.
