isp advice please
« on: December 01, 2009, 08:29:23 PM »

I'm looking for a cheeper isp. Currently with bt.

ideally looking for a package which may include cheaper afternoon calls as opposed to just evening calls at a low rate

Wondered if any one knew of a good package, my internet usage is quite low now.

thank you.

My first advice stay with BT for line rental as they have to allow you to use any other phone system.

As for ISP first check what options you have at exchange.
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

Report back results.

Oh and welcome to kitty land :)

Looks towards Kitz for lack of cat smilies.

You will need to say which area you are living in for any one to hopefully be able to give you a list of providers.
Not exactly where you live, "only the area"

Hopefully you will get a better response from one or more of the more knowledgeable members soon.

Probably the cheapest broadband + phone package is Sky but it's only available to Sky TV customers. Otherwise there's a load of information on prices, customer ratings and so on here. If you look at the ones near the top of the ratings list, and check their prices and other features you might home in on a favourite or two.

Norwich City
Norwich North
Norwich West

Put your post code or phone number into samknows and it will tell you what one and options you have.

If it is Norwich City looks like SKY would be best option but you may also have to change phone over to them.

Or Virgin if you can get cable.

SamKnows provides good information, but you might like to look at the Kitz checker too. :)

Probably the best thing to do is first of all check which LLU operators are available in your area.  - (Some ISPs are good on LLU and not so good when using the BTw based system - and vice versa)

To do this put your details in the adslchecker.  On the results page on the right hand side it should give you a list of LLU providers in your area.  If you list them for us and then we know what options are available to you.

>> my internet usage is quite low now.

If your phone usage is more important than your broadband usage then this will affect what we recommend.
Do you have sky?
How reliant are you upon customer service (& do foreign call centres bother you)?
Do you ever do any p2p.. as this may be restricted by certain ISPs

Sorry for the list of Questions, but its important that we ask in able to balance cost -v- usage type.

-----
Sorry I repeated several Q's already asked by the others -   I need to learn to type quicker.

For phone Virgin are the most expensive provider.

With the help of Heinz over at MSE I got my phone bill down from £40 - £70 a month to about £20.

I had a bad month last month BT had £2 somthing in call charges.

For you they may be.
For me they are the best

My package includes, up-to 10Mb BB + basic TV package and "Totally free phone line rental "and" free 24/7 free phone calls to 01 & 02 numbers.
Total monthly cost is just over £22.

  @roseway

And you are right BritBrat you do get what you pay for and to be fair we are aimed mainly at businesses. I have heard good things about Be* and my personal opinion would be to stay clear of Sky.

Best advise is to look at the ISP list and ask opinions.

Hi
Quote from Britbrat : Yes we all know they are but you get what you pay for.

Believe you me that is very true  :)

You can waste £X /month on frustratingly poor performance and service Or  spend £x+y /month and have an enjoyable broadband experience ,Knowing that if there is a problem your ISP will do their utmost to solve the problem .
