O/F
Thanks for the explanation - will do. Have noted warning re curiosity - am learning!
I go to get PC back Tues pm so will try & create disc after I discover if machine all works.
(can you tell I maybe don't have alot of faith in 'them'?)
When they rang today to say I could collect - they also said they hadn't been able to find out how to access the 'old' emails.
Boy am I grateful for you people!!!

Hopefully to save a bit of time/hassle, ask what make of drives you have, as the Seagate/Maxtor software will only work providing at least one of the drives are either Seagate or Maxtor.
You could also ask them if the drive came with the disc. (Some do, some don't)

(Other manufacturers also supply the tools, so it's still not a problem)

Hi
Pretty sure the 'old' drive was a maxtor.
I have the spec around somewhere - will check.
Thanks

When buying a new HDD, "some" but not all HDD come with the software so you don't have to bother downloading it and creating your own boot disc.

I've just reclaimed some emails on a laptop that I reformatted by using Ubuntu live CD (couldn't get into Windows at all).
Booted up the live CD, navigated to System and located the folder where they were stored (can't be specific as I don't use XP), dragged and dropped them onto a USB stick and that was that.
