Kaspersky - halving the throughput speeds?
« on: November 26, 2009, 12:20:49 PM »

Hey funny question, I have just been troubleshooting a high synch rate / slow throughput issue with a customer, and they seemed to say that after disabling Kaspersky their throughput went from about 3Mbps up to about 7Mbps...

Has anyone else ever heard of anything like this before?

I haven't used Kaspersky myself, but not heard any major issues with it before this...

This is a known issue with Kaspersky. :(

The workaround is to try one or all of these steps.

1) Try switching Web-Antivirus to Streaming Mode
2) Set your Anti-Hacker Zone settings to Max-Speed Mode (also experiment with unchecking stealth mode)
3) Disable Anti-Hacker
4) Disable Web-Antivirus

Do not forget to restart the browser each time.

Does any of that help ?  :)

Let us know how you get on with that.

I run Kaspersky (recently updated to 2010) on the windows boxes and have no real complaints.  Recently I've noticed that IE seems to take an eternity to launch on one of my XP machines, but I've not investigated why so I don't know whether to  blame that on Kaspersky.  But I'm sure I've not noticed any impact on download speeds.

Maybe it depends on how fast the DSL connection is, and whether the system's CPU has enough spare horsepower to keep up with it?  My connection's quite slow (3Mbps IP profile), so keeping up with that isn't asking much...
