Impulse noise protection: 0.55From what I recall (I'm sure there's a previous thread of mine on this) the "Excessive Impulse Noise" starts increasing when the ADSL filter(s) on your home line start failing. It's sort of an early detection system. When the ADSL line filter is about to be fried the modem will report a noise figure and also change from OK to "Suspicious - Impulse noise detected".
The Impulse Noise Compensation Tones is a count of how many tones are affected by dynamic noise on the line and this leads to bit swapping. For the bravest amongst you I recommend

The Impulse Noise Compensation mechanism is the electronic (dynamic) filter that these modems have to actively (as opposed to passively like e.g. an ADSL line filter) reduce noise.
