A heads up that if I get chance to complete, I will be putting the site into full Maintenance Mode overnight Sat 10th May 2025.
When done I will be at the mercy of DNS to propagate around the globe.
Hopefully see you on the other side on Sun. :)

Well that didn't go quite as planned.  :(

I have been up all night without any sleep, so far too tired to d a full update.   I have posted a little on the Facebook Service Status,
Basically I have decided to cut the loss of a couple of days posts versus the collasal amount of time spent on the collation issue on the GoDaddy server.  I am jusg glad to be moving away from them.  Its been hugely expensive and caused an immeasurable amount of tie spent trying to fix errors incurred during the enforced move.

I set the new Name servers so hopefully DNS will start to propagate and everything comes up ok on the new server.

I noticed whilst doing some other domains this week that Lets Encrypt can take a couple more hours before that gets going, so I am half expecting the kitz.co.uk and its sub domains to throw a false positive security warning

Damn there is still the odd post showing up as blank eventhouh I thought I tested everything and even made a post that deliberately contains all the rogue ISO characters.
Will have to wait and see what Happens with dns, but I really cannot do any more now as in way tooo much pain and cant think cause so tried.

Hi kitz,
Sorry to hear this is causing you so much grief but as I'm posting the dns propagation looks to have worked ok. :cat: :hat:

Well DNS seems to be at least fine as I can use the forum.

Thanks guys.

Why oh why would an error that I tore my hair over just miraculously disappear today?  I tested quite extensively before copying the database over.  Then come Sat night I overwrote with a fresh up to date database.   At first it looked fine, but then I noticed blank posts.  As I knew several of those blank posts included chars from the collation issue after the GoDaddy takeover so I thought the collation problem had come back to haunt us.

I should add I was using hosts file to direct my browser to the new IP.  Then the first strangeness, a test account (standard member) had no problems.  Yet both admin and kitz saw nothing for some posts.  I tried hard refreshes.  I swapped browsers over and around but no difference in that it only happened to admin (and me).

I took yet more copies of the GoDaddy files and set up a forum 2.  I got my hosts to take a copy of the GoDaddy database and upload.  Still the same thing. I tried resetting the forum paths.  I tried using various other forum templates.  I swapped my Sat backup files with the database Id been testing all week on and at first I thought I had a fix.    By now it was about 2pm and I'd been prepping and working on it a solid 24hrs not been to bed, in pain, in morphine haze and decided to just roll with using last weeks backup and the unfortunate loss of a few days posts so I could at least start the DNS going.

I intended going to bed but I must have falled asleep at the desk, which wasnt good.   But a quick look at 3am and the missing posts were back and everything was as it should be.

Its bugging me why only the admin - admin will have additional perms to features but swapping to the default templates rules out a code error in my kitzblue templates.
I didnt pick up anything wrong last week tests.  In fact you can see one of those here which has every single one of the ISO problematic chars.   I have a feeling that if I tried to use yesterdays backup that it would work now too.    Anyhow too late I made my choice yesterday what was at that time the best option.   Id still end up with a days lost posts.   But Im not up to messing around and taking the forum offline again.

It is something that is going to but me and surely has got to have something to do with paths and the hosts file -v- live dns?

Hi Kitz

Sorry to hear you're still plagued with issues from GD. They caused me no end of frustration

I visited the site this morning and must say it's notably a lot more responsive now! I've noticed no issues either.

As for your hosts file question - I find Chrome completely ignores/picks and chooses what is in the hosts file. I usually never have any luck with it when using Chrome.

Hopefully your new hosts are more helpful and are able to support you much better.

Hi Jamie, Lovely to see you. I hope that you and your family are well.  :)

I'm so happy to be done with GoDaddy.
My new web hosts did the majority of the migration for me.  I was left to sort the dynamic things such as forum and the name servers.
I had a hiccup with a forum mod in the (utf8) lang files, it was a leftover from the earlier GD collation issue

As for your hosts file question
Yes! Chrome seemed to ignore any hard refreshes after amending the host file.
I've since found what was causing the bug, the responsible mod had differing perms dependant on if the user was admin.
It got rather confusing when viewing as me in FF - OK. Viewing as admin in chrome - error. Viewing in Opera reg member - OK

Thank you.  I hope so too.
I don't usually have that many problems - practically all that I have had over the past few years have been due to something that the web hosts initiated.
I have raised a non urgent ticket this morning which is more of a question rather than a fix something.
Ive been looking around the support section and there is quite an extensive selection of help files and tools.
The customer portal seems well laid out and easy to navigate yet far more comprehensive than the 123reg dashboard I ended up with
Plus I have WHM and cPanel :)
