If I may crave your indulgence, I awaken this thread to give a short update.
To save you reading the whole thing again, it centres round an email received from my ISP, Virgin Media National.
That mail stated "We wanted to let you know about some quick work we’re doing on the Virgin Broadband service i
n your area soon" and that that work would take place sometime in the period 3rd. to 30th. November.
That period ends today.
My original question was to the effect " what do you think Virgin may be about to do"..............and this caused a little muttering and head shaking as it was evident after research that they were about to do nothing "in my area"...........if that meant my local exchange.
Well, they certainly did nothing in the exchange, my routerstats and connection speeds are exactly as before.
The only discernable difference is that my POP3 mails, whilst still being delivered to my Virgin e-addy, are no longer being delivered through a Virgin.net system but are being routed through the GMail system.
If that is the only difference made, then it is hardly the result of work having been effected "in my area"...............so that part appears to nothing more than hype and hyperbole on the part of Virgin.
Thank you for all the comments made in the thread by the several Kitizens who contributed, the matter seems to be resolved.
..........but in an unresolved sort of way
Will forget the issue unless something untoward crops up.
