Amateur Radio affecting internet
« on: October 01, 2009, 07:44:50 PM »

Hi Guys. Hope all is well.

My dad does a lot of amateur radio and we've never had any problems with the internet except tonight.  He's switchedit on started talking and boom, red light on router and internet down.

Is it this that's causing it, like i said nothing has changed.

Why is it causing it? Anything i can do?

Strange.

edit*

Come to think of it, he's moved a airial a few cm's higher out in the back yard, that is the only possible change.

Is his rig working ok ? is it blocking TV's out (TVI ) or radio's ?
Did he re- connect his coax down lead to the aerial correctly ?
If he's a Ham he should know about these things, has he taken the RSGB test ?.

Sorry only just got back to you, been busy.

No, not blocking anything.  Like i say nothing at all has changed what so ever, except the pole outside has moved maybe 5cm due to the old one nearly falling down.

Never had a problem for years except till it moved.  Hoewever, we've tried making it higher, lower, same as what it was and in the same place and it's suddenly randomly wiping off the internet.  (the internet green lights goes off and goes red on the router) untill he stops transmitting or recieving, and then it picks up again.

Very strange and no idea why.  Just annoying as can only do one thing at a time.

Tried everything tonight to rule out anything inside.

Changed things, moved things, it's strange, it's only when he's using the aerial we've moved.

No idea what to do now, it's very strange as like i said, only moved a few CM.

Weired.  :D
