Fine for me.  Can you tracert to the site?  If you are still unable to reach it try temporarily using OpenDNS and see if that makes any difference.

Hi,
I can't access it with Firefox but tracert bt2700hgv.tripod.com gives 18 hops to members.tripod.com [209.202.252.50].

And http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=bt2700hgv.tripod.com
says:
Site name or availability problem for bt2700hgv.tripod.com
We could not get any results for your selected site. There can be a several reasons for this:

Furthermore http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/bt2700hgv.tripod.com says:
It's not just you! http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com looks down from here.

Cheers,

Walter, am I right in assuming you use the 2Wire 2700 HGV then?

If so, is there a setting function somewhere that makes the router ask for a password as soon as you go to it's home page (192.168.1.254)?

Hi DJNeilD,

I have a veritable army of modem / routers which I experiment with in difficult locations.

I have several 2Wires of different vintages. The general rule seems to be the later the revision the less you can do with it.

I don't profess to be an expert and there are plenty more here who will know much more in detail.

The link at the beginning of this thread seems to be a reliable and quite authorative source.

Gurus - please comment in more detail.

Kind regards,
Walter

Mine is the latest, I believe, so less scope as you say. Out of all your kits is this 'no password' required to access the router pages common? I've only recently used the O2 router which did use a password and this BT one that doesn't.

With all your testing of routers have you deemed a general overall favourite?

Edit:
Forgot to mention that link you posted is really useful, a minefield of info on there concentrating on this one router. I didn't however find any answer to the question though lol.

I haven't investigated that feature.
I do know that it asks for a password if you want to change parameters.

You'll get all sorts of opinions on routers here.
Some work better on some lines than others but there's no set rule as far as I'm aware.
Linksys WAG54G2 holds noisy lines very well as does the 2Wire on different lines e.g. on a line of 7 km with a downstream attenuation of 83.4 dB see

http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=5546.msg126945#msg126945

Some find the Thompson 585 V7 and the corrsponding VOIP version TG 784 stable

The Netgear DG834 etc. is very popular as well especially if you want to use diagnostic tools.

I have had difficulties with Solwise SAR-600ER modems as they don't fully support a firmware upgrade for the TI AR7 bug and have managed to brick a couple of them.

Perhaps some others would like to comment as well ?

Kind regards,
Walter

Thanks orainsear, I have that password set up so no configuration changes can take place without it. I was after the function that stops you accessing the hub in the first place unless you input a password.....but it seems this hub doesn't support that facility.

I could be wrong, but as you suggest, I don't think that the Business Hubs do have a generic password to prevent access to the interface - in fact I think that's how most 2Wire modems operate; password protection seems to only be provided to prevent configuration changes.
