Well, I have had the laptop a week now and I must admit it is amazing!
The design as you see in the pics is basic but stands out from the rest. The curved hinge and unusual position of the power button is also a nice touch.
The keyboard is very nice to touch type on and also is very responsive. However, the F keys to function as Media keys by default unless changed in the BIOS.
As for performance, the Core 2 Duo is a must for this machine, as it does complement the 4gb Ram and 512mb graphics. All apps are responsive and a boot take just under 55seconds. Shut downs are about 30seconds.
It runs HD video well (iPlayer and iTunes HD content) and the screen is excellent. I haven't yet had a chance to give the HDMI a go but it does so I am told output at 1080p resolution...
It doesn't struggle with anything thrown at it and can video encode at an acceptable rate as well.
I don't game so cannot tell you performance of graphics but any video is smooth and clear...
Battery life is very very impressive. Balanced Power mode with 20% brightness (still v bright) gives 4hours and Power saver just over 5hours. High Performance gives 3h30mins.
Heat is average on this machine, you couldn't have it on your lap when doing any graphic or cpu intensive app, as it would become uncomfortable. However its fan is quiet and keeps CPU temps to around 49 degrees C.
The touchpad also gets warm...probably due to the fact that Dell but the WiFi card under it
Slot loading drive is also very good although does take a while to recognise DVDs. However its fast at ejecting at all times.
Overall an excellent laptop which I am over the moon with. What I will say is anyone interested in one to wait for the best deals! The above spec cost £550 with a 5% off voucher and was delivered in 9days.
