ISP Question
« on: September 11, 2009, 09:09:22 AM »

Hi all,

Can someone please give me any info as to this query.

My sister at present has her landline and broadband with TalkTalk. She is not happy with the way their customer service has dealt with a problem she has had(not a Broadband problem)
She is thinking of moving her landline over to BT and her broadband over to O2.
How/what is the way to do this in the correct order, does she have to transfer her landline over to BT first?
Can she still be connected to TalkTalk broadband once her land line has moved away from them, while her order with O2 is going through?

Hi UncleUB,

It all depends upon whether she has a TalkTalk unbundled line (LLU).

You need to enter her details in

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php

or

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

Kind regards,
Walter

Hi Walter,

Yes she is LLU with TalkTalk and O2  LLU is also available at her exchange.

If the line is MPF (full Metallic Path Facility) LLU which is most likely, then it can be more complicated and involve some adsl downtime :/

First of all she will need to get the phone line migrated back to BT before O2 can put adsl on it.
BT may make a charge for taking the line back..  but if you mention Return to Donor then it may be done for free if your stay with a BT line for the contract.
If you are quoted around £150 - which is the cost for a new line installation -  be insistent that you want Return to Donor and ask to speak to someone else.

Once the phone line is with BT then you can then order o2 broadband.
