On Thursday the final TV set made in England is due to roll off the production line at Toshiba's factory in Plymouth.

When it does, it will mark the end of mass TV manufacturing in the UK - a technology the country invented.

Depressing, isn't it? That's the industry which paid my wages for 30 years, and in fact Toshiba Plymouth was one of my customers.

Yes, a sad day indeed - british electronics used to be some of the best quality, best sounding and reliable goods in the world - now we import practically everything electrical - in fact I doubt I even own an electrical item manufactured in the UK!
