I have just requested my Mac code from BT.

I was given it over the phone straight away..........is that normal.

I did also request it to be sent to my address in case there's any comeback, but this has not been done as yet.Do I really need it in writing or will over the phone suffice.

As I am going away on Sunday till the 20th,when would be the best date to submit it to O2.(BT contract expires 1st Oct)

I guess that, so long as you copied the number down accurately, there won't be a problem. The format is:

L, followed by 10 alphanumeric characters, /, followed by 5 alphanumeric characters

e.g. LABCDE12345/FG67H

@ Eric,

Do I have to imput the  / when giving the code.

The code I have been given does start with 'L' and then has the correct alphanumeric characters in your post.

Yes.

If it were me, I would be inclined to contact BT again and request that code by e-mail. Not only would that give you a confirmation, it would give you something to copy and paste into the O2 application/sign up form and that without potential error.

I think I would also speak to O2 today, explain the time scale and your holiday dates and take their advices......they may be willing to accept the MAC today but agree a migration date between the 20th and the end of the month and not immediately  :)

I have just telephoned BT again and was told that even though the code was given to me over the phone it can take up to 5 days to receive email confirmation.
I was told that if I enter the incorrect code with my new ISP,they will be able to tell that its been inputted incorrectly.

I did also phone O2 and explained that I will give them the mac code on my return from holiday.I decided against giving it them before as more than likely they would send the router out while I was away even though I would instruct them not to do so.
