LAN Instant Message Client
«
on:

Can anyone recommend some software for instant messaging on a LAN, preferably freeware.
I would particularly want the ability to "buzz" other computers, rather like Yahoo Messenger.
Thanks,
Terry

Hi Terry,
I did a quick google and found this:-
http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/network/fwnetworkmessage.html
All freeware
May be of use to you?

Thanks Jamie,
I did some Googling too; there is a lot on offer
However, I have downloaded MessengerLAN (
http://messengerlan.com/
) which has buttons for quick pre-set messages & sounds which will be helpful for the situation I have in mind.
I'll check it out at home first.
Terry.

I have found what seems to be a suitable program: Winpopup LAN Messenger
http://www.winpopup-lan-messenger.com/index.html
It is free for up to 3 computers so will do the job.
I've tested it at home and everything works on XP and Vista. None of the others I tested worked at all.
Winpopup LAN Messenge does all I need, particularly pre-defined messages with sound in addition to sending files and chat.
Terry.
