Internet Explorer 8
« on: April 29, 2009, 09:46:11 AM »

Hi all,

Is anyone using IE8 at present.

I have just got the IE8 m/s auto update but I'm not sure whether to download it yet.

I use FireFox at present so I don't really need it,just wondered what its like.

Been using it a little while, haven't noticed anything memorable at all TBH.

Correction - had to use "compatibility view" on a couple of web sites.

Have it on Vista but never use it.

Prefer Firefox as its quicker. :)

If you Spybot-Search and Destroy or SpywareBlaster, expect IE8 to start sluggishly.  It takes an age to work its way through the enormous lists of bad sites.  Why IE8 is so slow and not IE7 beats me.

I feel uncomfortable with IE8.

It may.. or may not... be co-incidence but I commented to someone only last week that all of a sudden IE7 (I haven't upgraded to IE8 yet on this machine) seems to be taking an eon to load.

Your comments just reminded me that I updated and re-immunized Spybot S+D last week...  the other person I said this too also thinks its something to do with the immunize on his system too.

The situation is connected to that part of IE8 which is "SmartScreenFilter" which holds a form of Hosts File all of it's own, and Spybot s+D and SpywareBlaster immunization features are conflicting with that.

Although SmartScreenFilter can be disabled, the "hostfile" remains.

The recommendation is that the SmartScreenFilter offers more protection than Spybot or SpywareBlaster, and that these two progs should be uninstalled.

On the very rare occasions now I go back to IE7,it seem very slow to load pages at the side of Firefox.
I have got IE8 waiting to be downloaded via m/s auto updates but at this moment in time I don't think I will bother.
