Tiscali Email Issues
« on: August 02, 2009, 03:44:32 PM »

Just thought i'd mention this as it seems Talk Talk haven't brought along their "award winning support" to Tiscali yet!

Currently both me and my Dad are getting the login dialogue stating that Outlook cannot connect with the mail servers.

Its all over their Forums but the blamed it on ...... wait for it.......

Windows Update!!!

And after it happening since around Thursday, they still have not admitted its their problem!

Utterly shocking!

I must admit I did wonder what was going on. I have, for historical reasons, a Tiscali email account and have been intermittently getting loads of annoying errors from Outlook over the last few days.
But if I send email to/from it it works OK so I've just been ignoring it, sounds like that's the right decision.  :graduate:

From the looks of things, this problem is related to Microsoft updates.

This is despite some users saying they havent done any updates..  and if it was a windows update issue then surely a pile of other ISPs would also be suffering too.

Due to the amount of users seeing this then its more likely to be some sort of config error on their (POP3) mail authentication server.  Web mail uses different authentication.

Maybe they have...
TalkTalk users suffered practically the same problem earlier this year, which I believe was resolved when TT reset the mail passwords.

I've never used an ISP provided email facility.  I much prefer web based email.

Me too.

The exception to that was when I was with TalkTalk. It was a nightmare,It would never let me log on with the provided details,as soon as I left it worked. :D

Been suffering this problem too and soon dismissed Tiscali's suggestion that it was OUR problem. I collect on 8 different email accounts, from 4 different servers and only Tiscali's are suffering this problem - so I strongly doubt that it is a problem on my computer that is causing the error.

If you wait a few seconds (count to five) and just click to retry using the same details it usually succeeds - at least on that account. It also seems better in the dead of night when the servers are quiet. Really hope that they get this sorted soon as it is a real pain.

Love it.

No change here - still getting intermittent password failure on Tiscali POP3 email collection.
The failure seems totally random - different accounts each time - and resolves by waiting a few seconds and retrying.
Sometimes it works for a few attempts - then starts failing again.

Tiscali Support Forum staff have raised a ticket but no response yet.

At the risk of speaking too soon - the problem appears to have resolved - anyone else still suffering?
No update as yet from Tiscali - no suprise there - probably waiting for us to tell them it is fixed!

According to the sticky thread on their forums they replaced faulty hardware and I have noticed it for a while now...
