If the admin name and password have been changed from their defaults, then I don't think there's any way to recover them, apart from resetting the router to its manufacturing defaults. The default name and password are 'admin' and 'password'.

If you can log into the router, the ADSL user name will be displayed in the Setup section, but the password will be displayed as dots, and I'm afraid that I don't know of a way of deciphering the password.

Has a config backup file ever been saved? do a search for *.cfg

If so and you know where it is open it with notepad and all the info will be inside.

If not the only way back is a reset and all the data will be lost.

This is part of an old one of mine:
Quote
# Netgear DG834GT Text Format Configure File v0.2
#
# FW Version V1.03.22
#
# Usage:
#    # value list or syntax
#    [index]"variable"=value

   [10001]"Language"=English
   # Australia France Italy Singapore Sweden Switzerland UK Other
   [10002]"Country"=
#< Basic Settings >
   # dhcpc pppoe pppoa ipoa bridge ip
   [20001]"WAN protocol"=pppoa
   # 0:off 1:on
   [20002]"NAT (Network Address Translation)"=1

   [20101]"Login"=
   [20102]"Password"=
   [20103]"Service Name"=
   [20104]"Idle Timeout"=0
   [20105]"Static IP Address"=
    #< PPPoA >
   [20201]"Login"=ISP USER NAME@plusdsl.net
   [20202]"Password"=ISP PASSWORD WILL BE HERE
   [20203]"Idle Timeout"=0
   [20204]"Static IP Address"=
    #< Get Dynamically From ISP >
   [20301]"Account Name"=
   [20302]"Domain Name"=
    #< Static IP Address >

   [20403]"Gateway IP Address"=
    #< IP Over ATM (IPoA) >

   [20502]"IP Subnet Mask"=
   [20503]"Gateway IP Address"=
    #< Domain Name Server (DNS) Address >
   # 0:off

Easy when you know how:

If you can log into the router, the ADSL user name will be displayed in the Setup section, but the password will be displayed as dots, and I'm afraid that I don't know of a way of deciphering the password.

Even the router login is further down the .cfg file.

I wonder if there is any way you can export the settings without having to login to router?

Just a thought.

Could someome who has a Netgear try this:

EDIT: Darn looks like it will ask for User/Password.

Quote
1) Launch a web browser, it doesn’t matter if the router is not connected to the ADSL line, if not connected you will see a page not found error, that’s expected and normal.

2) Next, in the address bar cut’n'past or click on this LINK.
Code: [Select]
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=ping_test&c4_IPAddr=%26%2Fbin%2Fbusybox%20grep%20ppoa_%20%2Ftmp%2Fnvram%20%3E%20%2Fwww%2Fnetgear.cfg
Next you should see a white screen with just one of text something like

Usage: ping [OPTION]… host

4) Wait about 10 seconds and cut’n'paste or click this link

http://192.168.0.1/netgear.cfg

5) This will save a text file called netgear.cfg wherever your default location for saving documents is. You should then able to open netgear.cfg with a text editor such as Notepad on a PC or Textedit on a Mac. I ‘d suggest you re-save it with a different name as netgear.cfg is also used for router settings backups.

The text file should look something like :

pppoa_username: blahblahblah@skydsl
pppoa_password: 1234567aa1
pppoa_idle=0
pppoa_ipaddr=

blahblahblah@skydsl is your actual Sky broadband username whilst 1234567aa1is will be your ADSL password.

I wonder if you can activate debug and then use busybox to export the cfg file.

http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug

Darn I think that also asks for User/Pass.

Yes, everything comes down to the router password. If you haven't got a saved .cfg file, I don't know of a way to discover it.
