Home Networking
« on: May 28, 2007, 06:43:44 PM »

There was an interesting item on 'Click' this week about home networking 27/5/07.

I would very much like to see that, but unfortunately the BBC are Linux-hostile :(

Perhaps I was a bit hasty then. The BBC are rather Linux-hostile in some areas, but maybe not here. It's probably something I haven't configured right, because FF tries without success to display it in the MPlayer plugin. I've got RealPlayer installed, so it ought to work with that I guess.

[Edit] Yes, it works fine from Konqueror. I'll watch it with interest.

Yes, it's a video. I'm viewing it with RealPlayer. Perhaps I got it the wrong way round, and the Beeb are actually Windows-hostile. :)

Indeed many BBC videos in the past have only been available as RealPlayer streams and where there has been an option of Windows Media or Real the WM ones sometimes haven't worked correctly  :D

Youre kinda correct and set me on the right path thanks -  by default it played in RealPlayer which is what gave me the sound only.

However, when I went to
Preferences >>
pick your media player >>
windows media player

and it worked.

As Soms says you need RealPlayer or Windows Media Player (wpm ), but you must have the correct plug-ins for it to work correctly and the latest version, for Linux you need the Helix Player (a Linux version of RealPlayer with the Linux plug-ins)
See the help pages below
