Another BT 2Wire Business hub
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:01:18 AM »

Hello everybody,

I have just obtained a sealed box BT 2Wire modem to join my armoury of test modems.
The box is labelled BT Business Hub Version 1.0 Item code 025341 Made in Malasia

Reading from the article ukpa used in his post:-

http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm#Adjusting

This modem is:-

Assembly no. 4200-003003-004

Hardware version: 2700-100588-005

BT Business Hub v1.0 shipped in multicoloured carton

Single SSID printed on label.

factory shipped firmware v4.25.27

factory preset key code: 528Y-27G4-A222-22BJ-B22V

Max. wireless power: 400mW with v4 firmware

First appeared early 2006.

My serial No. is 2206 11 000 673 so it was manufactured in week 22 of 2006.

The questions I have are:-

1.  Does BT restrict its firmware updating generosity only to those modems connected on a BT Internet account ?

2.  Can the auto-updating feature be disabled?

3.  What is the preferred firmware version for this range of modems particularly for long line applications ?

4.  Are there any cautions to be observed with this modem ?  (I have not yet powered the modem up)

Given that I expect to use the modem in trials on different ISP's services, the wireless facility will remain disabled.

Kind regards,
Walter

My research continues:-
The corect IP access numbers are as Speedtouch i.e.

192.168.1.254

(@ Kitz Is this any use for your frogsts page ?)

There are version 4, 5 & 6 firmwares and it sems BT can auto-upgrade versions 5 & 6 but there are part-tested methods to inhibt upgrades. Many seem to want to adjust wireless powers but some versions are not recommended for long-line applications as they're "tuned" to margins around 8 dB.

I'm still looking for the optimum firmware version(s) for my long line applications.

The story continues at:-

Comments from any users would be most welcome.

Kind regards,
walter

If you get the version 6 firmware you are stuffed.

You don't even have to be using BT for it to update without your knowledge.

EDIT:

Maybe not - http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGVbtV6setup.htm

I have a few here that I may fire up again.
