All's well that ends well, hopefully. :)  The bashed-in box does sound likely to be the fault of the courier, and the cause of the problem.

Kudos again to e-buyer.

Got this at 9.13 this morning

Quote
Your RMA  has now been received by the Ebuyer Returns Department and will be processed by one of our Technicians shortly

and this at 10:00

Quote
Following extensive tests by our Returns staff, this item was found to be faulty. Therefore a full refund will be issued once theRMA has closed.

and 30 seconds later.

Quote
Your RMA has now been processed. All the items stated on your RMA have been refunded.

So yes it was a bit annoying that the 1st one was broken, the whole process by ebuyer could not have been handled any better than it was.
If it wasnt for the fact that there was a bank holiday smack bang in the middle of it this would have been resolved on a next day basis.
The staff were extremely helpful and made sure that the replacement was sent out the same day.  Couldnt ask for anything more really.

Very pleased with the new TV. :)

I like the bit about "extensive tests by our Returns staff". In other words, they switched it on and it didn't work. ;D

Still, as you say, they handled it well and gave you a good service, which is what matters.

*&$^*(^(&^*!!"$^&*  GRRRRRRR

Another RMA.

I put a DVD in it last night and the damn thing is stuck in there andwont eject as the eject button wont work.  Ive tried with tweezers but no joy either.

So back it goes... along with my DVD which they said they will post back to me.
I've asked for a full refund.. as I now understandably want to purchase another make.

That seems like the best idea. You could argue that you should have got a well known brand in the first place, but saying that there must be many, many people who have had no problems with non branded models
I think you have just been unlucky.

Argos have some possibly interesting models:

or if you prefer it in pink: ;D

(I don't really know who Acoustic Solutions are, but I have one of their Freeview TV sets and it works fine.)

Back to the drawing board for me...  funny enough eric I just found myself looking at Argos too.

Ended up looking at this one which is on special offer at the mo.  I realise I am now going a bit over what I wanted to pay but the past week's messing around has obviously made me more hesitant this time.

Anyhow..  this seems like a decent deal - it seems higher spec than their 19" one, yet its cheaper. - linky.

I was initially put off because it was 22" but looking at the width its actually only 3cm wider - and now Ive got rid of the old DVD+freeview box clutter that shouldnt be a problem.

Ive had a Bush TV before, lasted for years and only passed it on because it got too dated.. but the TV in still is still fully functioning as a portable for one of dd's mates at uni.

Any known probs with aspect ratio on 22"?.
The other one was very slightly squished, and Im sure a bit more than my old one.
Have I missed something obvious why this particular TV would be cheaper?

Another alternative is this one from comet - linky.

Kitz,

most CD/ DVD drives have a tiny pin hole thorugh which you can insert a straightened paper clip, I think that's supposed to open it even when powered off.

It sticks in my mind from the user's manual of a Sun Server I dealt with a while ago.  It described the procedure, with a nice diagram showing an unfolded paper clip.  Below the picture was a disclaimer "paperclip not supplied", which made me chuckle.

The Bush model from Argos looks like a good deal to me, and it almost certainly has the correct 16:9 aspect ratio because 22-inch LCD monitors have that aspect ratio (like the one I'm reading this in :) )

Bush is an old British brand name, but of course they don't actually make TV sets. Like everyone else they buy from factories in cheap labour areas and have them branded Bush. So you're not likely ever to know the true origin of a TV set.

I hope it's a nice DVD
Just on the off chance, would it eject if turning off and back on again?

Most DVD players built into TV's are usually just of a slot nature, not like the draw type on a PC. so I doubt if there will be a pin-hole eject, "but certainly worth looking for"
