'Super-fast Broadband' will provide a high-speed, open-access infrastructure, offering 25mb or above of guaranteed bandwidth and quality of service to the majority of homes and businesses in South Yorkshire, reaching 1.2 million people.

The word 'majority' makes me feel a little cautious  ???

Congratulations!

It appears your line will be connected to the Digital Region superfast broadband network in Oct-11. Please check back nearer the time to confirm these dates, or contact one of the ISP's on the network to register your interest to get online with the fastest regional broadband network in the UK.

I did mention that they have been laying cables at the end of our estate a few weeks back

So how does this work then as there is no plans as yet to upgrade my local BT exchange(Attercliffe).... ???

Hi Unky,

I don't suppose I've read anything you haven't Unky.
The (http://www.digitalregion.co.uk/isp-area/isps-on-the-network) South Yorkshire project is separate from anything that BT are doing, except for your D side line.
If that's so then perhaps you would not expect BT to be advertising it.

Kind regards,
Walter

So isn't the local exchange used then by the isp's signed up to this, not sure what you mean by D side?

Hi again Unky,

D side is BT's name for their Distribution side cables from their PCP green cabinets to your house(s).

Where the fibre cables from the S Yorks Project FTTCs go is entirely up to them. The telephones, if S Yorks are using the Shared (Metallic Path Facility) connection stay connected to the exchanges, but the fibre can go anywhere. If S Yorks have chosen the entirely disconnected D side lines, i.e. the Full (Metallic Path Facility) disconnection, then the phone calls will be routed via VOIP over their internet connection.

I hope that's clear !

Kind regards,
Walter
