Hi Joss,

I wonder how many other ISPs would, or in some cases even could, offer such services ?

Kind regards,
Walter

Hi Walter

I have been with ZEN now for quite a few years now. I can honestly say everything to do with Zen, from first class techs who are knowledgeable and keen to help you sort things out, and excellent Customer service. Also not forgetting rock steady performance you get with Zen. Some say Zen are expensive, but to me they are worth every penny.

Well final update I hope

The gear I ordered from ADSL Nation arrived this morning ( Pro + RJ11 to RJ11 ADSL2+, Pro+ cat five shield twisted pair cable and the XTF-85 Pre filtered Socket )
I installed this with no bother at all. Results ? excellent  ;)

Not one CRC error since I installed the above. Not only that, but even my sync speed has gone up by 250kbps. Web browsing is so much faster too.

Now I just have to wait for SNR to drop back down to 6kb from its current 12db, which was due to all the testing done by Zen the other day.

So once again just to thank all of you that contributed to this thread

 ;D

lmao I nearly flipped when I saw the flat-lined 0's - I had to look twice before I realised it was your CRCs and not the SNRM that I was looking at

Good result.

Bugger I'm back again!

All errors are still clear  ;D however, it looks like I am stuck on 12db SNRM and fixed to a bras profile of 6500. I talked with Zen tech support to ask if they could get my SNRM lowered back to 6db. I pointed out that occurred due to the testing they did as mentioned in previous post. Lots of router re syncs.
I would like to get my SNR back down to 6db and my sync rate back to the higher value now that every problem has been cleared up, no more errors.
ZEN where not very helpful on this occasion.
I feel I am stuck now due the the faults that have now been sorted out.

Advice and thoughts please

Hi
Well with a little bit of luck if your line is quiet then you should drop SNR target by 3 db in about a fortnight .

As Jeff posted - your Target SNR should be reduced automatically over the next few weeks if your sync and error count stays good.
I've seen this on my line just recently.

It's a shame Zen weren't able to help with changing the Target SNR :(
If you can manage to reach the right person within BTw it can be done in a couple of minutes!

Why BT and the ISP's can't sort this out once and for all is a mystery to me...

b4dger

I do agree. I did point out that it was Zen that caused several re syncs, that caused the sudden jump from a stable 6db to 12db when they ran their tests.
I do not want to criticise  Zen here, they were after all trying to help out by doing the diagnostics.
Perhaps I presumed to much in asking them to reset the SNRM.

I have since getting the netgear router, always had a stable SNRM of 6db and high sync rates. It was just the mass of CRC errors caused by my internal wiring that caused the ups and downs, That is now 100% sorted.

I shall keep monitoring the situation.

Joss,

Some bad news and some good news.

Bad news: it appears that ISPs are finding it a lot more difficult to get BTw to reduce target SNRM lately.
Good news: it looks like DLM has started to actually lower target SNRM by itself, as long as your error count remains nice and low. There have been reports of this happening in as little as 14 days.

So like you say, keep monitoring the situation, fingers crossed :)

Thanks guys

Zen did say that unless there is a fault on the line, which there isn't, then it is difficult to get BT to alter the SNRM. I could alter the SNRM via the DGTeam firm ware but Maybe best to let it try and come down on its own.

Hi
When mi SNR target was 15 I tweaked to 12  just to see if it was stable . when it dropped to 12 on its own I left it to tweak to 9 still keeping an eye on errors . eventually it dropped to 9 of its own accord . This meant that with the 3 db tweak I was running at 6 db. But because I get steped drops of about 3 db I removed the 3 db tweak and now running at 9db very very stable . It might drop again . So if you want a small tweak say 3 db will show you how stable your line is .

regards Jeff

Sound advice there. I have just, before reading your post used the DGTeam firmware to low the SNRM by 3db. Everything is stable and no errors reported.
I shall leave it for a few days now to see if it drops lower its self.

Thanks

Well here I am again. last post on 25th of April.
Since then it seems that I am stuck with a 12db SNRM. It wont shift on little bit. The routers been up 180 hours with out a re sync. I currently have the SNRM set at around 9-10db via DGTeam firmware. I am know stuck with a 12 db SNRM?
Incidental there have only  been 48 CRC errors during the up time of 180 hours.

Erm after my winging in the last post, I got up this morning to find a 3db drop in my SNRM  ;D So now I am on 9db instead of 12db. Sort of got caught with me pants down as i had DGTeam firmware set to 9db. It is now set back to the default 100%. Hopefully given time it will drop to 6 db again.
